the cockettes

this is from whtie crane's gay wisdom blog- the cockettes from san francisco circa 1972. this is a very obscure and rare peek at that city's then cultural phenomenon. i do believe that sylvester was a member of the cockettes and got his start with that group. they very much lived in "houses" quite similar to those 80's nyc houses depicted in "paris is burning". but these queens had their own style and created their own world. there's something so cheesy about them, and yet so avant garde. anyway have a taste of cockette....
