saving the best for last

Your hopes, dreams and aspirations are legitimate. They are trying to take you airborne, above the clouds, above the storms, if you only let them.
-- William James.

i was in the mood for something a little old school today. i have a real thing for vanessa williams. bitchy as all get out on ugly betty, she makes my heart pitter patter. but when i think back, girlfriend had her share of troubles.

seems to me that she was elected as the very first african american "miss america" and the title was rescinded because she had a past. damn, that must have totally sucked. it must have brought so much shame and humiliation to her doorstep.

the thing is though, that she stayed in the game. she kept a low profile, but she also just kept on. and i, for one, am totally glad she did. i loved this song, and i loved that it was used in "priscilla", too. i was mesmerized by her a christmas diva movie for vh1, and i love the ugly betty bits.

i guess it does offer proof that one turn of events is not the end of the show. and in vanessa's case, and hopefully mine, maybe there is really something to saving the best for last. and if diva can withstand humiliation on an international stage and still go forward, i guess i can swig from a jug of crazy now and then and do the same. isn't this world a crazy place??

'Cause how could you give your love to someone else
And share your dreams with me
Sometimes the very thing you're looking for
Is the one thing you can't see

today's sound choice is vanessa williams with "save the best for last"

Before Lannie, there was Cheri, and Cheri grew up next to the Williams family, and I met Vanessa's mother a few times.
She is/was as talented as hell, but believe you me, her reputation was actually well deserved! (But certainly no less than mine!)

I've always loved this song. And yeah, Vanessa kept pushing her way through this world. Beautiful post, Rod.
