pass the cranberry sauce

i gave a lot to get what i got
and i'm never goin down again.
i gave my pride.. to stay alive
i gave my soul.. to stay in control...
going out of town was the cranberry sauce for my holiday.. it was sweet, it was tart, and it was definitely the  thing. i so needed to step away from my life for a minute. i caught up with some folks i hadn't seen in awhile, and i reminded myself how bigger cities vibrate.

chicago is such an amazing construct. the architecture, the museums, the arts-it definitely lends itself to encouraging the promise our species holds. the new trump building is pretty spectacular. navy pier has grown into a shining jewel. millenium park is outstanding. the picturesqe lakefront cools off the vibrational rate of the 10 million people that reside there.

i remembered parts of myself that had been locked away. i love traipsing to shops, museums, and galleries. i learned so much as a young man about creative energy and expression living in that place that understands and supports it so well.

but more succsintly, i made an inroad to the amends i owe. not complete at all, i have begun some of the unravelling of the mess i left behind that city and those loved ones. much work left to do, and isn't that a blessing.

i spent most of my time in lake view.. on lake shore drive and broadway. we did walk through halsted street, but that was a quick jaunt and i was actually pooped at that point. but lakeview did renew me with a sense of who i had been, and where i came from. i plan to try to go back in the spring. there were many dear souls i didn't get a chance to see. and i still have work to do. hopefully i am also doing a living amends. there are many people to whom i may not get the chance to speak with or make direct amends. in those cases, i would hope that how i spend my days is a living amends for the damage i left behind.

i am including this recipe for cranberry relish. it is the one i am going to try this year. i am curious about the cloves and the black pepper..i am not sure if i'll post again before turkey day. i am having 11 people over and have much to do.. then nieman marcus last call is having a midnight sale on black friday... so very decadent..
here's hoping you have a warm and zesty holiday...

cranberry sauce ( from saveur)

14-oz. package fresh or thawed

frozen cranberries

1 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

1/2 cup fresh orange juice

1/3 cup Grand Marnier or Cointreau

8 whole black peppercorns

6 whole allspice berries

5 whole cloves

1 2" stick cinnamon, broken in half

1. Heat the cranberries, sugar, orange juice, and Grand Marnier in a 2-qt. saucepan over medium heat. Place the peppercorns, allspice, cloves, and cinnamon in a piece of cheesecloth and tie ends with kitchen twine; add spice bundle to cranberry mixture. Cook, stirring often, until cranberries soften and mixture thickens, 25–30 minutes.

2. Transfer mixture to a medium bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld. Discard spice bundle and stir sauce before serving.

today's sound choice is adamski with "never going down". this is a cut from the very 1st "back to mine" cd i listened to about 9 years ago. it's the compliation by faithless. i have it on my cd player now and i still really love it a lot.
