having spent a good deal of time living in chicago i have really developed an appreciation for architecture on some level. i mean chicago is a living, breathing architectural museum. it's fascinating.
while i was tweaking and roaming around southern california, the construction of the disney concert hall in la was taking place. and somehow i used to end up in its shadow often. i remember walking around its perimeter and really wondering about the audacity of its exterior. i was sure that interior had some bells and whistles, but the outside of the structure was like the ribbon candy my grandmother made when i was a kid.
i fell in love with that building, just as i love the photographs of the guggenheim museo in bilbao, spain. two dreams that i have now: to hear and see a performance in disney hall and to visit bilbao and spend some time wandering through its brand of ribbons. i thought of this recently because i was at a client's home the other night, and he had photographs of the guggenheim framed that he had taken while he was in bilbao. he seemed surprised that i knew what it was.
but i am a long running frank gehry fan. i think he steps up when he designs. i think he loves what he does and he has some fun with it. and i think he has vision i do not possess. just a salute to this architect. nothing indepth. just a nod. i also want to make it a little more real for me to achieve these dreams. hint, hint- if i come to la to go to cmala i might like to take in disney hall. and nudge, nudge, i will make time to go to spain.

You're ON!
I know, I take you to the Gehry, and you take me to the Guggenheim! Deal?
I love Gehry, though he's pissed a lot of conventionally minded people off. I mean, how dare he?
