back to mine

today i am feeling a bit melancholy. I was listening to some old tunes last evening and i ran across one of my favorite cd's. "back to mine" by faithless. it is not songs by faithless, but favorites of the members of faithless. and there are some great tunes on that cd. i have listened to that puppy over and over since i came across it the first time.

it is not the first of the "back to mine" cd's, by any means. there are actually 24 of them. some of them are more pleasurable to my ear than others. but i have not heard them all yet. i encourage you to visit their website and explore. there is a player loaded with a single selection from many of the 24 "back to mine" collections. they are mellow. they are lounge and they are chill and many are really spectacular. quietly so.

brainstormed in 1998, here is what the "back to mine" site says about the history of this particular concept collection:

Picture this: the club has ended and you and your mates are still buzzing and the last place you want to go is to bed. so with a wave of inspiration, you declare: "back to mine". on arrival, carry-outs and other essentials in hand there's a scramble for the turntables or cd player, but with a little diplomacy, you inform the rabble that it's one on and one off, and then lay down the first platter. where will it take you next?

it's this kind of situation that inspired dmc to explore the flip side to the artists and dj's that feature in clubs and venues every single weekend. realizing that whenever they came in from a night of clubbing or rocking, someone would always get on the decks and put together some weird and wonderful mix. they were quick to spot the opportunity. and so "back to mine" was born. the original and the innovators, just like the artists that work with them.

what you are getting here is not only great music put together with a great amount of imagination, you are also benefiting from years spend rooting about in musky establishments looking for that elusive vinyl treasure that is going to make the dj's sets and the artists' recording just that little bit more special.

and that's what back to mine is about. reflection. personal insight. and damn fine tunes that surprise and yet pull you in. embrace it and let it take you in out of the cold and into the warm.

and happy birthday from me.......

this is on the faithless collection and it screams 5am to me. it's a quirky tune and it makes me smile.

It's 8 o'clock in the morning there. I say go back to bed and enjoy it.

As for me, I'm going to bed as it's just after midnight. Nightie, night.

Wow--I have never been so baffled by a post before. I have no idea what this is all about, which is driving me nuts. So, I bookmarked Back to Mine, because I just gotta be in the know.

i don't think it's complicated, but i might think i have explained something. this is just highlighting a series of song compilations that i happen to love a lot. they are put together in u.k. and they are after-hour selections mostly. chill music. i mention in my header that i have an addiction.
