rescuer

sometimes i fantasize about being rescued from my troubles and woes. it would be great if some caped cassanova were to swoop in and and save my day. but it ain't likely and it ain't happenin'. i have to carry myself from harm and save me from my own biggest danger. me.

i know this is a recovery oriented blog and i know that bad behaviors are usually things that get a person to the place that they need recovery, but i cannot help myself in finding this calendar a delicious no-no. some of the images just take pot shots at stereotypes. do you know someone who might like this for the holiday? and moreover, do you really think there is a hero inside each of us? have you met your inner superhero?

bad behavior 2008

i welcome a reason to post an old favorite from dave grohl and co.

Foo Fighters - My Hero Lyrics

Too alarming now to talk about
Take your pictures down
and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
he's ordinary

Kudos my hero
Leaving all the best
You know my hero
The one that's on

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Ya ever see Batman and Robin? Holy sexual tension between George and Chris in their shiny leather uniforms! I think you got some pretty good company on this account--no need to give yourself grief about it. Ain't like your sitting on your penthouse terrace (like a reporter could afford THAT) waiting from Superman to drop in.

This got me to thinking of how we can best be a hero only to ourselves. I like to say "put your own oxygen mask on first so I can get down to the business of saving others! Love the Foo Fighters—nice call.

My inner superhero? Hm. Interesting question. I always kind of had a crush on the Greatest American Hero, but these days I'm not a big fan of heroics. I think Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne are sexier than their spandex clad alter egos.

Maybe I'm growing up.

I only allow myself to fantasize my hero just before I go to sleep, but he looms large in my dreams.
That's the nice thing about dreams.
