i've got a secret

i love sundays. i go to my favorite meeting and get my spiritual fix for the week. i don't have to go to work and can spend a bit of time just being lazy. things like taking a nap and having a snack can easily be part of the game plan. or going to the mountains.

but my favorite thing of all is
extreme makeover: home edition
.

i am without a doubt a sucker for the formula of this show. i know every week what is going to happen. i know every week that i am being manipulated in some way. i know that every week a number of companies and corporations are getting advertisement in the name of "doing good". and i don't care. i eagerly get ready for the start time of the show on sundays, and i patiently sit through the softsell peddling and the overt advertisemnts, because part of me believes that someone's lives are getting better and that it is happening because someone is taking the time and putting the effort forth to help make that so.

i love to cry my 2 minutes of tears on a weekly basis. it makes me feel as if my weekend is complete. i sleep better and suppose i feel cleansed in some way. anyway i love to cry(for only a minute), and i love ty pennington, too. beautiful, crazy, and driven. but, shhhh- don't tell anyone. it's a secret. i really don't talk about this much. i just kinda quietly slip into my sunday evening behavior without even thinking about it.

Oh please Mary. You and all of the women and most of the queens in America, including me, have the same guilty secret pleasure, even if Ty Pennington, in my opinion, is getting a tad repetitive in the use of his favorite expressions.
Who can argue with transformation and hope, and a hot host? Bravo ABC. More power to the advertisers. And I'd be a lot more worried about you if you DIDN'T cry. You'd have to be made of STONE!

I just watched the video. Thanks a lot, I'm sobbing like a schoolgirl and I still have the whole day ahead.

I was, like, the 6th?! member of the backstreet boys? but I guess this was filmed before Kevin quit. Howie has had some good & bad looks, but he's one of the cutest BBs. I should add their latest album to my Amazon wishlist.

I watched this show religiously when I first quit using. And yes, I cried two seconds into the opening credits. Part of what brought me to my knees, as they say, was the belief that there was no good left in the world. Certainly very little was being broadcast on television that would have lead me to believe otherwise, except for this show (And Queer Eye, of course).

When I watch it now it seems a ;little formulaic and contrived. But I still love the idea that there is an audience for a show about being good neighbors and that it can make money. Even if it happens in the editing room, everyone is happy at the end of the show.

My favorite part is when the construction guys hand over the deed to the house and tell that week's family that not only did their neighbors all come together to build them a new home in just seven days but they also paid off the mortgage. That part is always authentic. I especially love when the construction guys cry. I am moved to tears every time.
