pin up your troubles on god's clothesline

i was just watching '"the grass harp" again and there is a  segment where mary steenburgen plays "sister ida", who is an evangelical minstrel. she sings a song with the above title and passes along a clothesline stretched above the crowds head with pins and a few dollar bills clipped on. her kids (which she has about 9, each with a different father) then drop the line into the laps of each row allowing them the opportunity to contribute to the minstrel budget. what a hoot.  if you haven't seen the film, i believe it is definitely worth a viewing. truman capote (genius) story, great cast (piper laurie is astounding), early 20th century american-south perspective. lots of drawl , meaty metaphors and criticisms delivered with manners. THE GRASS HARP

but the whole idea of pinning up my troubles appeals to me. there is a part of me that does not want to face my difficulties. i really don't thrive on confrontation, and part of me tries to stuff my worries about things that don't go my way, or things that cause me great concern, or situations that blow up in my face. in recovery, i have learned that there are things i cannot change, and that i must find a way to accept those things and let them go. instead of holding on to them, and churning them over and over in my mind, driving myself to distraction, i need to process them. that is why i do sometimes need to remember to pin up my troubles on god's clothesline. or as been said many times before- let go and let god.

case in point: ben and his girlfriend were to have an abortion as they were not at all ready to take care of a new baby. the decision was made, plans in motion, and he felt like shit. maybe that's what he did to get through it and get to here- pinned up his trouble's on god's clothesline. laid it all out on the line.
