gloria gloria

Now the sirens have a still more fatal weapon than their song, namely their silence... someone might have escaped from their singing; but from their silence, certainly never.
Franz Kafka

this next one i absolutely fell in love with....

i found it in an unusual spot -on xtube. it got pulled from xtube for being inappropriate (that certainly makes it sweeter)! it definitely takes me back to another time entirely and yet it seems a little fresh somehow. i hope you'll agree... his name is karl allott. this is exactly what singers do.. they sing. let's have a little fun, shall we? so many gay boys in the early 80's sang these words on the dance floor of the paradise in chicago for weekends on end.

here are the lyrics. funny, i find them appropriate for any tweaker i have ever known...

and just to make it more interesting, i am posting the original version of this song, too. umberto tozzi singing it in its original language (italian).

clean time

i think one of the very 1st photographers that had me stand up and take notice was robert. his photographs were so steeped in statement and the subjects- even the flowers- were some of the most sensual images i can remember. and when he started to include shots of the nyc underground leather scene, i became entranced.

anyway, i was just looking at photographs of his this morning and thought i would share my experience. he truly had a path and followed it until his end. and he made many friends and enemies on his way. but i see his life and much of his work as a testament to following one's head, heart, and gut. surely this is an imperative.

i am also coming clean about the fact that yesterday, finally after a year, i was able to get my wireless router up and running. i have just never had the patience to sit through troubleshooting, and really the fix was as easy as going online and letting the company's website do the work. i am so relieved and look forward to a lack of chords running across my floor constantly. plus, i can print documents from my laptop without being connected- yeah!

speaking of coming clean, i stumbled upon the following at a dozem steps

We’ve seen the First Step Promises, the Second Step Promises, , the Third Step Promises, and the Fourth Step Promises, now here are the Fifth Step Promises from the AA History Lovers Group at Yahoo!

1. In actual practice, we usually find a solitary self-appraisal insufficient. (72:2)

2. If we skip this vital step, we may not overcome drinking. (72:2)

3. They took inventory all right, but hung on to some of the worst items in stock. They only thought they had lost their egoism and fear; they only thought they had humbled themselves. But they had not learned enough of humility, fearlessness and honesty, in the sense we find it necessary, until they told someone else all their life story. (73:0)

4. We must be entirely honest with somebody if we expect to live long or happily in this world. (73:4)

5. Once we have taken this step, withholding nothing, we are delighted. (75:2)

6. We can look the world in the eye. (75:2)

7. We can be alone at perfect peace and ease. (75:2)

8. Our fears fall from us. (75:2)

9. We begin to feel the nearness of our Creator. (75:2)

10. We may have had certain spiritual beliefs, but now we begin to have a spiritual experience. (75:2)

11. The feeling that the drink problem has disappeared will often come strongly. (75:2)

12. We feel we are on the Broad Highway, walking hand in hand with the Spirit of the Universe. (75:2)

finally, all i have to say is "way to go, reba!"

it's the most wonderful time to be queer

damn, i missed this show yeserday and i am totally disappointed. charles phoenix puts together these shots that are totally wacky and retro, extremely fun, and engaging. he will be in phoenix on dec 4 and in la the 17th thru the 19th. i encourage any readers living in those cities to consider taking in his work. the holidays are most definitely challenging, but there are so many great things about them too. being silly, reviving campy in my life, and having another reason to practice kindness are just a couple i can list. for me, it is indeed, a wonderful time to be alive.

here's charles phoenix's link if you would like further information.

and now a nod to johnny mathis. when i was a very young boy, my mother used to have a couple of his albums, and i remember hearing those songs many times during my boyhood around the house. and it doesn't matter to me how he defines himself. he's of a different generation and lived under a different agreement field. i am thrilled however that so many queer men are not required to lead two lives without losing their livelihoods. i know many of them do anyway, but it's not a requirement today as it was in the 50's and 60's. but johnny may have been queer when queer wasn't cool.

lazy eye

as i grow and change, i find myself wondering who the hell i am now and then. i don't recognize myself, and it's a challenge to see myself in a different light. i tend to want to revert back to previous images i held of myself. and return to previous thought patterns and behaviors. it's maddening. but with perseverance, i am hoping that i will emerge from this trek a changed man. a better man. a man who doesn't fall into the same pitfalls and traps that he did previously. i hope i will emerge changed. i find i start to change and then become fearful because i don't recognize myself. conundrum? and is change ever really over? i guess i didn't change for so many years in some areas and so it is so foreign to me now.

are you patient with yourself while you change? is it easy to recognize yourself while you are in the process of major change?

i have posted this song before, but i keep hearing it on the radio station i play in my car and the hook stays with me for the rest of the day...the vid is totally sweet, too.(marc-that adjective is for your benefit) silversun pickups. here's a bit of fun- click on their website, go to the links page, find the listing of bands you should listen to, see how many you know or listen to.. this is one testament to the inevitability of change.

chuckles

another guy who no longer has a monkey on his back.

i just felt like a chuckle today. i googled david sedaris and came across this article i hadn't read in "new yorker"

you may have seen this clip already. if that's the case, i'll bet you won't mind if i ask you to humor me and revisit this. the sedaris siblings are nothing short of brilliant in my eyes. they possess this uncanny ability to read the everyday promotional material and insert their own brand of ridiculous and leave us with a smile on our face and a tear in our eyes. have another giggle today and go visit gaybipolar guy
